HK Memory Chest Kit Club - January 2016

Happy New Year!! Welcome to 2016. We spent Christmas and the New Year in the UK, so we rang in the new year at a good friend's house with dinner, lots of alcohol and some back garden fireworks.

Christmas was a big family affair at the in-laws, with sixteen sitting around the dining room table - so much food and drink and it didn't stop for days. Feeling very full and fat. Definitely have to get back into Zumba mode very soon.

Let's start of the new year with a lovely kit. It's more of a fall kit, but the purples, blues and neutrals are so gorgeous, you just have to match them to some of your more colourful photos.

The sketch for this month:

Cherish This
Just look at the oranges, yellows and purples. Goes perfectly with what Miss C is wearing. Her trousers are showing up very blue in this photo - must be my printer.
Are these feet not adorable?  They are a good complement to the leaves and boots photo.
I fussy cut the berries and the acorn from one of the papers. For transparent accents, I used glue dots to stick them down. You can also use double sided tape but I didn't have any with me on holiday.

Grateful Memories
I love the deep fuchsia backing paper and it's a perfect foil for the multi colours of the striped papers. The photo is of Miss C's and her good friend who has just left Hong Kong.
The little foxes are just too cute and I placed one on each side to frame the photo. Just a few flowers and a chevron arrow to frame the title.
I balanced off the top right corner of the photo with more flowers.
I love the puffy stickers in the kit and also the flower paperclips that add that extra accent.

Here We Go
We get a stack of 6x6 patterned papers in the pack and they are great for doing patching/collage layouts.  I cut out the heart from white cardstock, cut out the triangles and paper to fit. The photos were taken just before Christmas on the trampoline in my sister in law's garden with Miss C's cousin. They get on so well and it's so fun to see them playing together.
I left the embellishments quite simple to showcase the heart, so just left little clusters of accents.
I added some splatters around the page to balance it out.

HK Memory Chest Kit Club - December 2015

Hi there. Can you believe we are in the last month of the year? How quickly has this year passed by? So much has happened and yet sometimes, all these events seem to fade from your memory. This is why I love scrapbooking - we get to put those moments down to look back on in the future.

December also brings us to the HKMC Christmas kit. Beautiful vintage Christmas colours and images from Prima Marketing, mixed with some amazing mediums make this kit so fun to work with.

The sketch for this month:

 Holiday Cookies
Gorgeous vintage papers to play with and add lots of dimension to. The photos were taken two Christmas' ago when Miss C made Christmas bear cookies for all of us.
I punched a bit of the border and added the lace behind. For the snowflakes, I added glossy accents and sprinkled over silver glitter. Once dry, I dabbed the ends with Aleene's glitter snow.
I sprayed the white leaves green and that even turned the glitter around the edges green - love it.

Noel
I kept this page brighter to go with the modern Christmas trees in the photos. I added the glitter snow through a stencil for the background.
The flowers are so pretty and a bow completes the little cluster.
I added some gold glitter glue over the star to make it shine a bit more.

The Nutcracker
Having mixed mediums in the kit inspired me to play around with more ideas, hence the collage background.
I collaged the background before adding a thin layer of gesso. I then used gelatos to "frame" each collage piece. I also added the music paper in places. I sprayed the leaves gold this time to match the flower cluster.
I love bringing out my toy soldier die every year and this time, I made him into a nutcracker to go with the photos.

Happy Holidays Display Plaque
I used a Tim Holtz canvas frame for the base, collaged on some the kit paper and added a layer of clear crackle paint.
I added some gold paint on the base and added gold microbeads to the corners. I die cut the sentiment from some Heidi Swapp glitter paper. I had some white flowers in my stash, which I sprayed red.
I love this Santa - just so old school. I finished off the layout with generous slathering of the glitter snow.

Camping We Will Go

Hi there. This week, Miss C had her school camp, where her class went on a three day camping trip. They had to pitch their own tents and they had a lot of fun doing water sports and team building exercises. Miss C came home exhausted but very happy. The teachers were very good with taking photos and putting them up online for us parents, so it was great to see quite a few of Miss C with her friends. Since there were so many of them, I decided to make a double page layout during our crop session this week.

A Camping We Will Go
I used two collections from the same manufacturer, mixing and matching. The background papers are from separate paper lines but the colours of the embellishments match each one well. I'm not great with double pages and it's funny how I made the layout to look like two separate pages.
I matted all the photos with kraft cardstock before adding circular cut outs randomly around the photos.
A little mini title area with journalling.
I love the brown burlap look of the background paper - so realistic. Again, I used circular cut outs to tie the pages together.
Cute accent corner with some chipboard.

HK Memory Chest Kit Club - November 2015

Hellooo. It's been a while. Did you miss me? Ha ha.  We've been away for the last two and half weeks - first to Bali for a week during half term and then, a cruise from Singapore for hubby and I. We're sitting in the airport lounge waiting for our flight home and thank goodness - we finally have decent wifi.

If you've ever been on a cruise - you don't get wifi, unless you pay an astronomical amount for it. We usually don't do it and it makes for a relaxing, unconnected holiday, however, this time we were waiting for some family news from the UK, so hubby decided to get a weeks' plan for us - the worst wifi ever - as slow as the first internet connection. It's understandable though, since it's all linked by satellite when you're on a ship and you get bounced from satellite to satellite.

In anycase, I'm finally (un)wired up again, so decided to fit this post in while waiting for our plane.

Luckily, I did manage to get the November kit from HKMC to work on while we were on the ship and had a fun couple of days finishing them off. This month's kit is very cute with an eclectic selection of papers.

The sketch for this month:

 You & Me
I absolutely adore the background paper - such cute line drawings and reminds me of the adult colouring book trend that's happening now - so what to do? Colour them of course! The cute photos were mother and daughter messing about - not the best quality photos but a worthy moment to catalogue.
The kit comes with some pretty silk flowers that add a nice punch to the page - so cheerful. I love the glittery gold foam title and splattered on a bit of gold ink to draw out the gold elements a bit more.
I used my Zig Color Real Brushes and a water brush to add colour to some of the drawings - I didn't want to do the full page as I wanted to keep it mostly clear.

 Soft Hugs
Don't you love the water colour paper? I didn't do that - it's printed on the paper! So cool and so on trend. You know Miss C and her Snoopy obsession. She can never resist a cuddle with one - especially one so large.
The kit comes with some pom pom trim, which I tucked into the bottom of the photo. The animals, I cut out from another sheet of kit paper and had them standing on either side of the photo - so cute. I coloured up the title and added a shimmer of gold spray.
Love the glitter sentiment pack that comes with the kit and this one seems so appropriate. I also love the rotary stamp with all it's cute phrases - perfect for all occasions.

So Good & Yummy
For my last layout (which was the first one I did), I kept the background fairly fuss free as I wanted to concentrate on the busy photos instead.  I cut both papers (the striped and green) at a bias for my photo collage.
I added a black pen border around each photo to mimic a comic strip. It also helps to make them pop a little and make them more grounded.
I finished off with some wood veneer letters which I painted black with my Faber-Castell big brush pen and also some naked veneer asterisk and quotation marks.
