Think Happy Be Happy

Hi there. Yesterday was a great day. It was my first kid's scrapbooking class at my home. I'll be doing a class every Monday, concentrating on a different technique and theme every week. I only have two little girls at the moment, to be three next week and hopefully will expand to a full six.

This week, we did a simple stenciled layout where the girls went to town with rainbow colours and cranked out die cuts on the Big Shot. All lots of fun.

Starting off very simply with a stenciled background.

On to my current layout. I'm slowly making my way through our summer holiday photos.

Think Happy Be Happy
I love the colours in this kit - dark pink, yellow, orange and greens. Such a pretty combination.
I sponged on some gesso on the background paper and also smushed some distress paints around the page and splattered with some white paint before putting down the photo and embellishments.
I dug out some resin flowers from my stash to bulk out the embellishments. I added lots of layers to the photos and also a lace edge.
I love the little ready made pinwheel and the cute wooden buttons. Oh, and of course the cute smile in the photo.
I added a cute happy flair to the heart banner and some sequins around the page.

Wooden buttons from Shimelle

HK Memory Chest Kit Club - October 2014

October always seems to have that air of anticipation. For me it seems like the start of the autumn/winter holidays; beginning with Halloween and ending with Christmas and the new year. It usually also means cooler weather, finally, hopefully. It's still hot here but you can feel a cool breeze now and then that brings a promise of winter. We've had a long, hot summer and it's time to cool down. I love curling up on the sofa with a fleece blanket and cat on my lap.

Now on to the October kit. I'm so excited about this kit as it is so different from previous kits. It's such a fun collection with a circus theme; great for bringing a touch of quirky humour to your layout.

Here's my sketch for this month, based on Erika Lui's layout.

Beware: Wild Cousins
This is my first layout with this kit and I kept it simple to focus on the photo of two happy kids.
I kept the title in a corner to balance out the mini chalkboard sign on the right. The white grid layer behind the photo is actually packaging that came with the kit. No waste, use it all up. Is that a cat hair above the title? Sigh... hazard of having two fluffy cats.
I added the rub-ons on the tag and label to liven them up. Love the cute star flair.
Wondering what to do with the deco dots, I decided to use them in a circle to balance out the right hand side of the page.

Welcome To My Fluffy Circus
When I saw all the circus animals in the die cut ephemera pack, I knew I had to do a layout on Miss C and her stuffed entourage. I swear she has so many that they take up half her bed.
I used one of the add-on tickets to use in the wooden frame.
I added a heart stamp to the background cardstock paper to give it a bit more interest. I added orange Thickers to the little alpha stickers that come in the kit.

Live Louder
For my third layout, I packed on the paper layers behind the photos to give a multi dimensional look. I also used packaging from the kit to use as one of the layers. The photos were taken at a picnic in England this summer with all our friends and their kiddos. I love the top photo when the kids realized they could turn the sun tent upside down and walk around inside it. Too funny.
I used the straws and wire to create a trapeze frame for the cute die cut trapeze artist. For the thought/talk bubbles, I cut them from kraft cardstock and added rub-ons.
I love the photo booth and had to incorporate it in the layout somehow. Wish I had a small photo to stick in there, but realized it would be too small, so I stuck with the clown instead.
You can see all the layering behind the photo. I painted the buttons a pink to match some of the pink in the ephemera.

Apart from my layouts, you can see the other pages from the rest of the team.

Last Retreat Paper Reveal - Fancy Pants Memories Captured

Hey there,

Less than 10 hours to the HKMC Autumn retreat and I have one more paper line to show you. This one has actually been on sale already at the shop, but it's nice to do some sample layouts to showcase the papers.

It's also been a while since I entered one, so I am also submitting this layout for the My Creative Sketches September sketch challenge. Here is the original sketch.

 Watch The Birdie!
We had a great time this summer in Isle of Wight and Miss C was such a pro at mini golf. She even got a hole-in-one on one of the holes! Chalkboard effect papers and embellishments are very popular right now and the black/white contrasts very well with any colour.
I wanted a single punch of bright colour against the paler colours of all the other papers, so I added a small heart to add a visual focus.
I got the cute little resin butterflies from a shop in Sham Shui Po, and the colours match this paper line perfectly.
The "Birdie!" was cut with my eClips. I remember I'd heard this phrase used in golf (meaning one under par) and it's also a saying by photographers to get kids to look at the camera. Pretty spot on title, really.

Products Used
Patterned papers from Fancy Pants Memories Captured collection
Cardstock in black, grey, blue and fuchsia by Bazzill Papers
Mini title letters from Jillibean Alphabeans
Resin butterflies and sequence sourced locally

Now, time for some sleep. Have a long day tomorrow at the retreat and can't wait to have lots of scrapbooking fun.

Thanks for dropping by,

HK Memory Chest Kit Club - February 2013

Hi all,

This is my second post today. As it is the end of the month, you know I'm going to post the next HKMC kit club details.

This month's kit is a nice contrast to the January kit, with pretty soft yellows, oranges and blues, and a good balance of dots, gingham and florals to suit both gender layouts.

February 2013 Kit
8 sheets (2 each of 4 papers) Fancy Pants Hopscotch Paper in three combinations
1 sheet Fancy Pants Hopscotch Banner Die Cuts
1 pack Fancy Pants Hopscotch Glittered Chipboard Alphas
Selection of Fancy Pant Hopscotch Mingled Buttons
1 pack Doodlebug Designs Inc. Doodle Twine

Add-On Options
Fancy Pants Hopscotch Stickers Fundamentals
Fancy Pants Hopscotch Tape Stickers
Kelly Purkey Bright Ideas Stamp Set

February Sizzix Die
Die-namics Round Banner Trio Die
Spellbinders Embossing Pad

Colour Me Happy
When I saw the papers, my first thought was I needed to use this photo with them. I like the rainbow spectrum of the candy which seems to go well with the colours of the papers. I'd been wanting to do the sunburst pattern on a layout for a while. I'll be posting a tutorial on this soon.
I love the contrast of the pastel patterned papers with the sharp brown glitter alphas and the shot of bright pink of the button.
A small accent on the top of the page balances the layout. I'm having a ball with my sewing machine right now. It just adds so much detail to a page.

Extra Elements: white cardstock, white sewing thread
Dream, Explore, Discover

I chose an orange shimmery cardstock to match the Fancy Pants Butternut floral paper and separated the two with a thin matt of green. I then designed and die cut a linked circle mask with my eClips to overlay on the orange floral paper.
Individual circles were die cut out of the other papers to place under some of the linked cirles, giving it a patchwork feel.
To finish the layout, I scattered buttons, pennants and word stickers around the page to add interest.

Extra Elements: cardstock in light orange, orange and olive green

My Gorgeous Beautiful Family
For my last kit layout, I sprayed the base paper with blue and green glimmer spray before using all of the banner die cuts that came with the kit, layering them up under the photos to create a colour matt. I love the photos in the layout - spring time in Japan with cherry blossoms and blue skies and my family with me - what more could you ask for?
Some of the banners had lovely quotes on them, so I chose this one to accent the layout. The little alphabet stickers are perfect for long titles or use on cards.
I punched out some little flowers from extra circles I had left over from my second layout, to tie in with the cherry blossom photos.

Extra Elements: Summer Sky and Pear Tart Fireworks shimmer spray, bling
