HK Memory Chest Kit Club - June 2016

Hi there, I can't believe how lax I've been in posting. Lots of things happening; sister in law visiting, sorting things out at home, getting a hang of a new lifestyle change. I have managed to scrap a few layouts, these ones included, but just haven't had the time to post them. I promise I'll post the others as soon as I can.

For this month's kit, I love all the cool graffiti like vibe. It makes for some fun, young pages.

The sketch for this month:

 Hey You Cool Girl
When I saw the papers and embellishments, I knew I had to match them to my photos. It just goes with the photo background so well. Love the water colour beehive paper. I added a light coat of gesso to help my photos stand out a bit more. I have a stitched stamp and used that around the page.
Loving the sheet of printed acetate that comes in the kit - you can cut out phrases or shapes that you need.
I "graffitied' the wooden zigzags to emulate the photos and also coloured in the arrow paper to match the photos.

 Nutty For Nutella
True happiness comes in a jar of Nutella. Haha. This was the case for Miss C when she received her own personalized jar from her aunt for her birthday. The girl will put it on anything. She says that when this jar is finished, we will need to refill it from normal jars. Anyway, for this layout, I wanted to match the greens and blues, so I stamped and stenciled similar colours on the white background.
I layered some patterned paper in a fan shape with the photo on the bottom. Lots of different textures to choose from for the embellishments as well as the title. I used distress ink on the wooden zig zag to make it pop from the yellow.
Seriously love the acetate self cutting sheet. Only thing is trying to stick it down - can't help seeing the glue dots behind it but not a huge deal. Love the buttons that come with the kits as well.

Rock It
Oh my gosh, loving this bold and bright red background. I also splattered on some matching red ink to give it another dimension before flicking on some white paint. The photos were taken in the changing rooms.  Miss C was pooh poohing every choice I made for her and she laughed at this Rollingstones t-shirt. She thought it was funny but still rejected it. Right, time for some education in rock 'n roll.
I kept this layout quite simple with just a few cute accents. I really love the cassette tapes as they go so well with the theme. I remember recording my rock music on to cassette tapes. Oh my. Showing my age. Haha.
I added some wooden accents diagonally from the photos just to balance out the page.

The Best Drink Ever
On to my last layout. I chose three very different patterned papers to do the background. I ran out of vellum so I used baking paper to back the photos. Not sure about if it's acid-free but I chanced it anyway as I didn't want to clutter up the design with more patterned paper. Oh, and if you haven't tried the S'mores frappucino, why not?
I coloured the top half of the chipboard title with as close a colour to the green on the paper as possible. I think it was Distress Ink in Evergreen Bough. Love all the vinyl pieces that come in the kit. So adorable.
Love this little semi-circle matched with the vinyl heart and buttons.

My Brave Super Star

Hi there.  Looking through my photos, I realize there are so many photos I still haven't scrapped. Sometimes, you just have to be in the mood to scrap particular photos, you know what I mean? Like the following sports day photos. For some reason, today was the day to scrap them.

I was looking through the My Creative Sketches blog and wanted to utilize some of the previous sketches, even if the sketch challenges were over.  I chose the one from the February challenge; perfect for multiple photos, and in fact I used a 2x4 grid rather than the 2x3 grid in the sketch.

My Brave Super Star
Another year, another sports day. This actually took place in November last year and it's taken me this long to scrap them. If you look at the above sketch, it only has three photos but I like how my layout has turned out without being too busy.
I did a torn border for the title strip. It gives a bit more texture to the page than just a cut edge. I love the ripples on the corrugated title.
I'm not huge journaler but this story had to be told. Poor little Miss C, she really was so brave. A few tears in her eyes but she kept a stiff upper lip, pick herself up and finished her hurdles and all the other events.
What luck to find this sentiment in my stash. The elephant is just too cute so he had to go somewhere.

CNY In IFC

I've been busy this week working on next month's HKMC kit, to be revealed in early May and I can tell you, it is so much fun. One hint: watercolour.  I can't wait to show it to you but alas, we will have to be a patient a bit longer.

At today's crop, I decided to change tactics and instead of thinking up an original layout, I wanted to follow a sketch. It also gave me the opportunity to finally submit another layout for the MCS sketch challenge and this is my entry for April.

And here is my layout:

CNY in IFC
I love the colourful triangle paper and although it's quite busy, I wanted something cheerful and bright for the colourful photos. I tried to leave the rest of the details pattern free to balance off the busy background, although I do love how the pink cut out flower really pops off the page.
I added an accent corner on the top of the photo, just a small cluster of flowers and tags.
I love the wood look camera - it also adds a bit of 'neutral' to all the colours.

HK Memory Chest Kit Club - March 2014

How is it possible we are already going into March tomorrow? Time is passing much too quickly. It seems like we've only just finished one month's kit sample layouts, when the next month's layouts are being published already. Not complaining though, we've had so much fun with each kit.

This next one for March features papers from a very new company, one that we found hidden away in the new exhibitors section at CHA. They are so different from what we've seen of other lines, that we knew we had to bring this to you. The papers show cute movie and film related images which we paired with some new Amy Tangerine embellishments.

Here's the sketch for this month.

 Crete
I was looking for a new way to display multiple photos. I quite like this staggered column. Simple and shows all your photos.
I used by eClips to cut out the title, layering three of the same die cut on top of each other to make it thicker.
The chevron die cut I placed behind the photos sort of mimic the pattern of the stars on the yellow paper. That was pretty coincidental.

Extra Elements: Black Soot distress ink by Tim Holtz for Ranger, grey cardstock, eClips

Here We Go
I wanted a white background for this layout, but plain white just wouldn't do. I die cut strips of chevron and covered the page with them. It's lovely to rub your hand over the texture. The photos were taken on my first hike up to Tiger Head. It was pretty tough, but hubby wouldn't let me give up, which was good as I felt great after getting to the top.
The pops of yellow and orange spray gives the layout more visual interest. How brilliant is the Phew die cut? Ha, perfect for my photos.
I think these embellishments were made for my photos. The cloud (need more of these) with the wooden people are just too cute.
Did I say how in love I am with the foam Thickers words by Amy Tangerine? I Needed this (with a capital N) when I saw them. A must have.

Extra Elements: Yellow and Orange Ink Sprays

Seriously Cute
I've been holding on to these photos for a whole year, waiting for the right papers and I thought the film countdown paper was perfect. The photos were taken at the Coca Cola shop in Las Vegas last April. The bear is standing in front of a green screen and you were supposed to purchase the chroma-keyed photo, which we declined. I love the expression on both the bear's and Miss C's faces. So adorable.

I'm also submitting this layout for the My Creative Sketches February sketch challenge. I rotated the sketch 180 degrees, so the corner accent was on the bottom right instead of on the top left. I also used three photos instead of just the one.

This is the My Creative Sketches February sketch, which I rotated on my layout.

Absolutely love the foam words. The great thing about them is that they are flexible, so you can bend them the way you want before sticking them down.
I used an olive green cardstock for the base to match the green in the film countdown patterned paper. I then stamped on some film strips on the back to extend the film visuals. I designed the speech bubble die cut on my eClips, gluing several layers together before inking so it looks like a wood cut out.
I think this layout warranted some journaling, so I hid some behind the photo.
Here it is popped out to read.

Extra Elements: Film strip stamp from Technique Tuesday, Olive green cardstock, white acrylic paint, Black Soot distress ink, pink foam Thickers
