Wedding Mini Album

Hi there. This week's big project is a mini album that I did for my lovely helper. Remember a few posts ago when I made a wedding layout for her, this time I made a mini album for a few of her favourite wedding photos. Just a few but they highlight the ceremony. I just love the outfits and colours of the wedding party and I wanted to echo that a little in the album. Where the layout was brighter and paler, I went with more romantic, muted colours for the album.

Wedding Mini Album
I created a 6.5" x 7.5" album with a 3" spine, which I covered in black cardstock. I then cut out patterned paper panels to cover each page and the outside of the album.
A lot of the flowers and trim were already in my stash.
I glued in two white ribbons under the cover papers to fasten the album.
I love all the romantic flowers, lace and trims. The metal accents and cabochons are also from my stash.
You can get a glimpse of the inside, where I die cut some doilies and also used lace to trim the photos.
Each photo is accented by a flower cluster and I added a pocket to the back inside page so she can add notes or more photos.
I finished with some metal corners to make the album more durable.

My helper absolutely loves the album and she is so happy with it. It's already been packed away for her to take home.

Metal accents, lace, bling trim, pearl trim, sequins and sequin flowers all from stash, locally sourced

12 Tags of 2012 - September

Hi All,

I can't believe it's almost the end of September already. I've had to keep this monthly mini project on the back burner and wanted to get this done before I forgot it completely.

I love this technique by Tim Holtz. So effective yet simple. I will definitely be using more foil in my layouts in this way. Thanks again Tim for another wonderful tag.

Tim Holtz's September Tag
Look at that metal finish. It's amazing how you can achieve this look.

 My Version of Tim's Tag
I used slate, ginger and stream alcohol inks colours. I had the camera instead of the typewriter which I used with a "capture the moment" metal tag. I added a glass bevel over one of the sprockets for added interest. I love clocks at the moment, so used that instead of the ink nib. Wish I had the light bulb as that is such a cute accent.

Hope you like it.

12 Tags of 2012 - August

I have been lagging on this month's Tim Holtz tag. Finally got it done tonight. This is an interesting one as I decided not to get the texture fade embossing folder and of course, Tim does a tag with it. No worries though. As always, improvise.

This is Tim's tag
This is mine.
I didn't have the pinecone die, so I used the flower die and used rugged-edge scissors to create the rough edges on the petals. Instead of using the fade embossing folder, I stamped and cut out the top note/silhouette image and stuck it down to the tag. I didn't have any twig/branch die, so I did without.

I think it turned out alright despite the lack of materials that Tim used. Hope you like it.

12 Tags of 2012 - July

Another new month, another new tag from Tim the man.  This one uses alcohol inks and specialty paper. Tim uses pressurised air to create his "fireworks" but I had to rely on my own breath so my splodges are not as pretty. Note to self to get some canned air as after this project, I feel like a chipmunk who has stuck too many acorns in its cheeks.

Since Tim's tag was based on 4th of July (which we don't celebrate), I decided to use one of my nature stamps to create my tag. I like how how the puffballs look like fireworks.

My splodges don't look as good as Tim's but I like the colour combinations that I chose.

12 Tags of 2012 - June

Quick posting before bed time. I'm off to NYC tomorrow. YAY!! Not looking forward to the 17 hour flight though and hope I can sleep through it.  Hubby has to go there for business and I had the opportunity to join him, so of course I jumped at it.  This also means that I won't be able to do any work or blog for the next week. I'll be back the week after, so I hope I have lots of photos to share then.

Anyway, back to this tag. This is based off of Tim Holtz's June tag. The photo? That's me at around 18 months. When I look at this picture, I'm always taken back by how much Miss C looks like me at that age. I'll have to post a comparison when I get back.

For my tag, I've used most of the same techniques that Tim has, although my embellishments are different. I don't have half the stuff he has and like anyone else, I simply improvise. I'm not going to list out the products I used as most of it was sourced locally and has been in my stash for a while. I do like how this has turned out.

Tim Holtz's May Tag

I missed out on doing the April tag last month as there was so much going on so I was determined to do the May one. I don't have half of the stamps that he has, but I tried to improvise as best as I could and hopefully, I'll be able to start collecting all of his amazing stamps at some point.

Here is the tag that Tim did for May. And the one below is mine. It's a little different from Tim's but uses a few of the techniques he showcases on his tag.

What I Did
I used a green tissue paper for the base. I then stamped on a variety of stamps in different colours.
I added a trim and measuring tape washi tape.
My dress form is actually a magnet backed die cut which I did a while ago. I pulled it apart to use in this project.
I coiled a length of brown rosette trim in a circle around a Gluber before sewing on a flower centre and pearl.
Instead of using Utee for the green mini flowers, I just used Glossy Accents and let them dry over night.
I stained some kitchen twine and wound it around the flower stems before sticking them with a couple of sewing pins and hot-glueing them to the tag.
Funny thing; the clothes hanger is from one of Miss C's girl's paper doll books. I used alcohol inks to colour it bronze as it was plain wire.
The butterfly pendant and scissors trinket was from my stash.
The green trim at the top was coloured green with Distress Stain.

Products Used
Grunge Paper for the tag, Tag Die, Stampers Anonymous Papillon CMS106 stamps, Dress form die from the Sewing Room die, Distress Stains and Distress Inks, all from Tim Holtz collection.
Brown rosette trim from Webster's Pages Bloomers
Adhesive Gluber dot from Cosmo Cricket
Washi tape, peach trim, tag trim, green flowers, pendant and scissors all sourced locally.

Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2012 - March

Tim Holtz, one of my heroes, used to do a 12 tags of Christmas, but he recently changed his format to 12 tags of 2012, featuring a tutorial once a month on his blog. Last month was the Valentine's tag I did here, and this month, he upped the ante by doing a faux mosaic effect. I followed as closely as I could with the materials I have.

I wanted to use a brighter "grout" for the butterflies just to give it the contrast and I love the Inkadinkado flower stamp on the background.
This was a quick fifteen minute project but the possibilities with the mosaic effect is endless and you can adapt the technique to any die cut shape to give it that amazing look.

Products Used
Grungeboard, distress inks, tag die and butterfly dies all from the Tim Holtz range
Flower Stamp by Inkadinkado
Glossy Accents by Ranger
Trinkets and ribbon sourced locally
