A Day of Frolic

Hi there. How was your weekend? Saturday, Miss C went for a sleepover with her good friend while hubby and I celebrated two separate birthdays in one night. Today Miss C competed in a swimming gala - no medals but she did her best and enjoyed it. That's all that matters.

I completed this following layout on Thursday but didn't have time to post it.

A Day of Frolic
The papers in this collection are so exceptionally gorgeous, it was hard to choose which one to use but I finally settled on this blue bird paper.  I added a subtle texture with clear gloss gel with a chain link stencil. I then added a flower stencil pattern with molding paste for a second dimension. I then brushed on some water colours to make the flowers pop a bit more.  The photo is one my favourites, taken at the Vancouver picnic. I love how her eyes and just a bit of smile shows through the pom pom.
I think I used up three packs of flowers for this layout - roses, hydrangeas and an assortment pack. Just couldn't stop.
I fussy cut some tea cups for this corner. I love using bling swirls around the page.
For the chipboard filigree on the left of this picture, I gessoed and then added layers of water colour and distress paints. I also brushed some gesso on the flowers to mute the colours.

Wedding Layout with a Difference

Hi there. It's been so quiet here. Everyone seems to have gone on holiday and we're off next week as well. Can't wait. Been rather lazy on the crafting front but I thought I'd get one layout done at least.

My helper went home in April for the month to visit her family and also got married. She's from Indonesia, so it was very interesting to see the gorgeous wedding outfits that she wore. She's back with us for a few more months before going home for good to start her new life. She's been with us for more than six years and it's going to be so sad to see her go as she has been like family to us. The least I could do was make a wedding layout for her. I still have a mini album to go for some of her other photos which I'll get around to after our holiday.

You & Me
I chose a pretty neutral background paper with just a few details in the corners. This one from Blue Fern studio was perfect to frame the photo. Isn't the photo amazing? The outfits, hair style and head gear are so colourful.
I fussy cut some flowers to frame the photo and also added Wink of Stella to glitterize them. I added several layers of gold embossing powder on the wooden phrase as well.
I got the large pink silk roses from a local haberdashery and thought they went well with the fussy cut paper roses. I added some smaller roses aroudn and also added a metal accent.
I cut up a filigree chipboard frame and just used to the corners to frame the photo.
Before adding all the embellishments, I added a thin layer of white gesso on my paper. I then smeared green and pink inks with the "smooshing" technique. After that, I coloured some molding paste with bronze perfect pearls and stenciled through the flower pattern. I also added a lace border to balance the right hand side.
I also stamped the "forever & always" randomly in gold ink before adding clear embossing powder to add some dimension. To finish it off, I painted a gold chipboard key chain in gold and gold perfect pearls as a cute accent.

Us

Hi. Last week we had my sister in-law and her son, Miss C's cousin over from England and we had such a great time. The kids really miss each other and usually only see each other once a year during the summer. This year we don't have plans to go back until Christmas, so they came over for the week. I love seeing them together; they get along so well.

Them being here did mean giving up my scrap area to make room for a bed so I was happy to get back to it this week. I haven't done a mixed media page for a while and wanted to dabble a bit.

 Us
I love this romantic background paper with the music notes and lantern. I love the photo, taken at a charity ball - a rare one where both of us look kind of presentable.
I sprayed and dabbed mist inks on the background before adding molding paste over a rose stencil and then adding some stamping around the area. For the hanging heart, I painted, then crackled and gessoed to give it more texture.
I then layered on the die cuts and flowers. I love how the yellow spiral flower makes for a bright focal point next to the photo.
I dug deep into my stash of flowers just to have some different contrast in flowers; fabric, paper, felt and mulberry.

Icicles in Tutus

Hi there. I can't believe I've not scrapped these photos yet. I know I printed them out a while ago and thought I had already done a layout, but I guess not.

Miss C loves her ballet lessons and every year, the ballet school puts on a performance. Last year's theme was called Ask Alice and featured Alice in Wonderland but with a twist and had a snow queen as well as other characters. Miss C was one of many 'icicles', with their beautiful blue tutus and as there were an odd number of them, one icicle (mine), was chosen to do a short solo with one of the principle dancers. I was so proud of her, seeing her come down the middle with the snow queen, I actually burst out crying. So silly.

Snow Queen's Icicle
I didn't have any winter themed papers to go with the photos, so I chose some nice vintage papers and added some icicles as accents instead. That sort of pulls the papers in to match the photos.
I heat embossed a couple of layers of blue embossing powder to some scrap paper before die cutting out the icicles. I added flowers as well to bulk out the page.
I splattered gold mist on the background paper and added a few bling brads to make the layout sparkle a bit more.
