Birthdays in March

Hi there. March is the birthday month for my two closest to my heart - the hubs and Miss C. As their birthdays are only four days apart, we usually choose separate weekends to celebrate. We went to Macau with a couple of friends for Miss C's birthday and we had a family dinner and then a bigger party at our place for friends for the hubby. I haven't scrapped that one yet, but here are the two layouts I have.

Birthday Dinner
This is a very simple layout which I completed in around ten minutes. I used more masculine colours and I love the wood plank background against the blues.
The cake die cut is too cute and I love the simplicity of it.
Just a few accents complete this page. I kept the rest of the page very minimalistic.

Papers and die cuts from Pebbles Jen Hadfield Designs Simple Life collection

Epic 11th
For Miss C's eleventh birthday (gosh, I can't believe how quickly shes growing up), we decided to take a couple of her friends on an overnight trip with us to Macau to an indoor interactive role play centre. The hotel room was enormous and the girls had fun playing hide and seek in the suite as well as having a blast in the role play centre. I love this fun paper line and the cute embellishments to go with it.
The doggy and kitty are so adorable and add whimsy to the page. I love the gold glittery foam letters and I have used them in several layouts.
So many cute balloons and chipboard accents  make it easy to complete the page.

Life Is About Moments

Hi there. I did this layout a couple of weeks ago and only got around to posting it today. It's a pretty simple layout which for some reason took me a while to put together. I try to keep my layouts fresh and for some reason I was having a bit of a blockage when doing this one. Nonetheless, I'm quite happy with it.

Life Is About Moments
I love the freshness of the papers and they go well with the greenness of the photos. They were taken during the CNY holidays. Unfortunately, the bamboo was part of an installation in a shopping mall. Wish it was a real bamboo forest.
I layers strips of papers of different lengths behind the photos. A small accent corner to accommodate the title and a rosette.
 Another small accent corner.
Finish off with a top edge accent to balance off the page.

Winter Blues

Hi there. We certainly had a lot of fun during our Japan trip just before Chinese New Year. We took the bullet train up to Akita in the North West of the main island and also to Aomori for a few days. Lots of lovely snow to play with and yummy Japanese food. I never get tired of going to Japan.

Miss C loves the snow and wanted to be out in it every second. Too cold for me, but she could play in it for hours if I let her.

Finally able to use a snow collection from My Creative Scrapbook January Creative kit and I love all the blues and purples in the papers.

Snow Much Fun
I love all the blue papers and patterns for the background.  I tore strips of different patterned papers to lay across the background. The photos were taken in Aomori, Japan.
I love all the glitter on the diecuts and alphas.
Glittery pink flowers bring a touch of feminine to the page.
Nothing better than a hot drink to warm up a cold snow day. Love the ready made rosettes.

Hello Duckies

Hi there. It's been a productive week for layouts and I did three this week. Hubby's been away for the last week, so I got to take over the study in the evenings and leave all my stuff out without him grumbling about the mess. Haha.

This is the first layout I did. A very simple one that took only a half hour.

Hello Duckies
I wanted to keep the layout simple and fun to match the photos, using mostly bright colours. The photos were taken at a shopping mall that used the ducks as a promotion. Too cute.
I free-hand cut the pink paper with scallops and then added bits of the other colours randomly on each. I like the slight childishness
I die cut the hello from glitter paper and bulked it up with four more layers of blue cardstock to make it thicker. I stuck the yellow alpha stickers on white cardstock and cut around it. I love the big blue flowers, rimmed with silver balls. It gives an eye catching visual to the page.
I finished off the layout with some wooden buttons.

Products Used
Patterned papers from Pebbles Fun in the Sun collection and Doodlebug Design Sunkissed collection
Flowers from Prima Marketing
Wooden buttons from Shimelle
Teal glitter paper for word hello from Heidi Swapp

School Photos Done

I finally sat myself down and got working on Miss C's annual school photos which have been sitting in my photo cubby since 2012 to now. I bought a pack of school embellishments and just grabbed some other papers from my stash to match. Pretty easy really, as they are mostly just in primary colours.

The class photo takes up a large space, so I kept the pages clean and simple, with just a few accents here and there. I split the embellishment pack over the three pages and still have some left over for next year.  The fun thing about doing all three years at once is you can really see how Miss C and her little classmates have grown and changed from year to year.

It's Fine To Be Nine

It's that time of year again of birthday celebrations. The hubby and Miss C have their birthdays on the 10th and 14th respectively. Hubby only managed to get home from a business trip on the night of his birthday, so we held off on celebrating except for a card or two.

For Miss C, we had a little party for her and her friends. She also got the most longed for present of a mermaid tail which she was constantly asking for.  It's a full body mermaid tail with a mono fin which you can swim in. It's the most gorgeous tail with beautifully printed scales. We're testing it out next week on our one week holiday in Bali. Can't wait for that.

Fine To Be Nine
A rare double layout, I used two contrasting coloured background paper and linked them with the punched striped paper at the top that looks like awning
I mimicked the name balloon banner in the photos with similar coloured chipboard Alphas
I love the see through birthday stickers which I stuck on some of the photos as well as around the page.
I heat embossed the wooden letters in gold to make them stand out a bit more. For the top and bottom scalloped paper trims, I used a very old paper by Sassafras Lass, who no longer design as a brand. I was hoarding them but I thought they fit well with the other papers I used, so finally decided to part with one. I love how they used to do patterned cut off strips on their papers.

Miss You

Start of a new week and a new layout. I was going through my photos deciding what to scrap when I came across some cheeky photos of Miss C and her cousins taken last summer and that reminded me how well they get along together. We only see them once a year, if that and I know they miss each other a lot.

 Miss You
I love the blue background paper, perfect for a boy/girl combo. I love the funny faces the kids are pulling in the photos.
I brushed on some gesso before spritzing with some Color Shine. I doodled a bit on the word stickers just to give them the extra pop as they were so close in colour to the background paper.
I haven't used my punches for a while, so decided to use several of them to create interest to the paper strips. I staggered a bunch of gold glitter banners along the bottom of the strips.
A little sketching/doodling around some of the elements and layers add some interest to the layout.

Products Used

Glitter chipboard letters from American Crafts

You Are My Happy

I can't believe how fast time is passing. It was only yesterday I remembered I hadn't done the My Creative Sketches April challenge yet and there are only a handful of days left before the deadline. I love seeing all the different layouts everyone comes up with for each challenge.

http://mycreativesketches.blogspot.hk/2014/04/april-sketch.html

 You Are My Happy
Super cute papers and diecuts in pinks and blues.
Instead of a banner under the photos, I cut and layered two paper fringes.
The sweetest diecuts. These would be great for baby pages too. For the border, I drew the scallops with an embossing pen before heat embossing with white embossing powder.
"You are my happy" -  I love this phrase.

Products Used
Patterned paper from Dear Lizzy Daydreamer and Pebbles Garden Party
Polka dot vellum from Crate Paper Oh Darling

Looking Back At Seven

It's getting to be that crazy time of year again when the hubby and child both turn another year older; all within four days of each other. Here's when the "who gets which weekend" juggling act starts. To top it all, we're off to Sydney for a few days and coming back the day of hubby's birthday, which means my planning time is even shorter. No cake for him from me as he wants a dinner that night after we get back. Trying to sort everyone out now.

For Miss C, we're looking at a Furby themed party and then a sleepover for a couple of her best friends. Luckily, we've agreed on only a handful of kids, so it will be a small and quiet party. Parties and planning aside, I'm still getting my head round the fact my little girl is turning eight in two weeks. Sigh. It's so bittersweet to see her growing up and how she can be smarter than me sometimes. I'm so happy she is still into giving and receiving lots of hugs and kisses.

In order to record this last year, I've done an @seven page. I did an "@ six" page a while back, and wanted to continue one for each year.

 You @ Seven ...Almost 8
The paper is actually part of some Valentine themed paper lines. The layout is based on a sketch that was included in my February MCS kit club package. I've never really used the sketches they include before, but I love the upside down pennant that was in this month's sketch.
They included some DIY spray flowers and I got to use my brand new gelatos. I'd been eying a set of these for ages but was put off by the price. After using them again at CHA, I couldn't resist anymore, so I ordered mine at HKMC. I am lovin' them.
This photo was taken last Sunday. I was going to leave the title at You @ Seven, but I couldn't resist adding "Almost 8".
Paper dolls!! Ever since Julie Nutting came out with the first one, I've loved them and have half a dozen in my stamp collection, but this is actually my first time using one on a layout. I was inspired by a friend of mine who put them on her last few layouts. They really add that extra something something to your page and are so much fun to piece together.
I had Miss C's favourites typed out on a hidden journaling card. I'd love to view these layouts later on to see how her tastes change over the years. LOL at how she can't choose just one toy. She loves her stuffed toys.
