HK Memory Chest Kit Club - April 2015

Hello from sunny Bali. We're here for a week of fun in the sun. A little too much sun, really. It's been pretty hot and humid here, but we're lucky to be five steps away from a pool. We're staying at a villa with some of our friends and Miss C finally got to try out her mermaid tail. She is a natural and mastered it immediately. We have until the end of the week for her to grow gills.

Right now, most of our friends have gone out to enjoy a few drinks and we decided to stay back at the villa, just chilling and relaxing. Perfect time to prop my feet up, put on a DVD and write this blog post.

This month's kit is again, jam-packed with goodies. Such a cute kit, with cartoon images themed around food and breakfast in particular and so much fun to play with.  Get out those breakfast/food pics and play with us.

Here's my sketch for the month:

Ridiculously Big Fabulous Brekkie

 The perfect photo for this themed collection. I kept the colours quite neutral for this layout with more browns and yellows. I just noticed that both photos are exactly the same; I had slightly different ones but I didn't notice I printed the same one twice until now. Oh well.

The photos were from our trip last Easter to Orlando, Florida. Big portions are of course a must but I think we ordered more than we bargained for, hence the title. I die cut the 'fabulous' from one of the patterned papers and made it into a chipboard title by adding more layers.

 Just a little accent corner on the top left of the layout.

 I love these little word stickers which you can just stick on randomly. Perfect for the photo. For the background, I used a tan cardstock, added random alphabet stamping and then splattered on a bit of brown ink. I finished the page with some enamel stars for an added accent.

Cute Buddies

 For this layout, I wanted a white background to bring out the colours of the papers. My Jake cat looks well impressed with getting his picture taken and with the little girl using him as a pillow.

I love the wooden word tiles; just string them up with some twin or jute to make an instant banner. I die cut the hearts out of the add-on patterned paper in a rainbow of colours and added similar coloured paints underneath to look like they are dripping down the page.

The kit comes with a pack of ready die cuts; perfect for date stamping and adding accents.

I splattered some pink paint on the white background before adding my other elements. I love the wooden pegs which add an extra fun accent to your page.

Hello Cuties

I love the yellow cloud paper and how it contrasts with the blue good morning paper. I kept this layout pretty simple to concentrate on the cute photos instead. I had to dig deep into the archives for these photos of the two cousins at four and five. I must have had my mind on our holiday as these pics were taken on our first trip to Bali in 2010.

I diecut the 'hello' and again made it thicker by diecutting and sticking layers of cardstock behind it. The kit comes with a generous bag of buttons and I stuck them around the page as well as some brads.

There are some really cute images on the the cereal patterned paper and I cut out some of the critters to add around the page. I die cut the rainbow from some of the left over patterned papers from the add-ons. I just love this owl family.

HK Memory Chest Kit Club - November 2013

Hi all,

How is everyone doing? It's been a slow month, scrapbooking-wise, for me. After the retreat, I was bogged down with cakes and then we went away for ten days. Wow, what a great time we had: Rome, Sicily, Greece and Turkey; cruising around the Med. Three days in Italy and seven days on the cruise. I love cruises, but they're also the worst things - for your diet (that is). So much food on board and everything is five minutes walk of each other. I think I had to spend more time in the gym than anywhere else. Mind you, we had mini golf, ice skating and rock climbing to keep us active as well.

Right after coming back, I had to dig right into making my cousin's wedding cake. A beautiful three tier ivory creation that took 20+ hours to complete. I think the most hair-raising challenge was to get it to the venue in one piece, which, luckily it did.

I did, however manage to get two November kit club layouts done. Funnily enough, I did both of them before we went away and for the Roma layout, left the photo areas blank until we came back.

Here's the sketch and layouts I did.

 Look To The Horizon & Beyond

For some reason, these papers spoke to me for the photo. I kept this one simple, showcasing the papers and elaborated on the title instead.

I had these glass pebbles that I used to create a bit of oomph to the plain chevron.

I masked off the sunburst stencil and sprayed it orange to give a sun rays effect.

Create your title with different sizes and colours of alphas to add interest.

Roma

This was the layout I put together before we left on holiday. I used blank cardstock cut to size as my "photo holders" until we came back and I had actual photos to swap them out for. I only have five photos here, so I may expand this layout to a double page with more photos when I have time.

 This the cutest suitcase die. I really had fun die cutting this one and putting it together. Whoever thought of this die is a genius.

I looped the baker's twine around the page and across my title so that your eye will follow it to the tiny little plane on the top right of my layout. I had to dig in my stash for a geotag. I love them.

Retreat Paper Reveal - October Afternoon 9 to 5

This is such an interesting paper line. It has the "Mad Men" office vibe and you don't see many "work" papers like this. It was fun to work with as it made me think very hard on how to use it. I turned it around into a back-to-school page and also another page for my hubby.

It Is Time For Year 2

There is a good balance of "office" patterns as well as florals.

 The mini letter stickers are my favourite. Adding a stitching line through it takes it from plain to cool.

Each circle and square is stragetically placed on the page to add balance and interest.

 The little clock button is the cutest. And I of course used an authentic office date stamp for the date.

You Are My Rock

 The dark wood effect paper is a wonderful contrast to the other papers and accents on the page.

 The title was cut out with my eClips. I layered different papers behind each word and left the arrows blank so it showed the wood paper underneath.

I cut strips of black/white paper to imitate washi tape. I added the little file folder of labels behind the photo to give a little more interest.
