Birthdays in March

Hi there. March is the birthday month for my two closest to my heart - the hubs and Miss C. As their birthdays are only four days apart, we usually choose separate weekends to celebrate. We went to Macau with a couple of friends for Miss C's birthday and we had a family dinner and then a bigger party at our place for friends for the hubby. I haven't scrapped that one yet, but here are the two layouts I have.

Birthday Dinner
This is a very simple layout which I completed in around ten minutes. I used more masculine colours and I love the wood plank background against the blues.
The cake die cut is too cute and I love the simplicity of it.
Just a few accents complete this page. I kept the rest of the page very minimalistic.

Products Used
Papers and die cuts from Pebbles Jen Hadfield Designs Simple Life collection

Epic 11th
For Miss C's eleventh birthday (gosh, I can't believe how quickly shes growing up), we decided to take a couple of her friends on an overnight trip with us to Macau to an indoor interactive role play centre. The hotel room was enormous and the girls had fun playing hide and seek in the suite as well as having a blast in the role play centre. I love this fun paper line and the cute embellishments to go with it.
The doggy and kitty are so adorable and add whimsy to the page. I love the gold glittery foam letters and I have used them in several layouts.
So many cute balloons and chipboard accents  make it easy to complete the page.

Products Used
Papers and chipboard embellishments from Simple Stories Carpe Diem and Posh collection

Hi there. This month's kit is a gorgeous collection to celebrate life and those special occasions. I love the mix of drawn designs and photo backgrounds and this kit is just in time for me to scrap Miss C's birthday photos.

The sketch for this month:

Drum Away
I used kraft cardstock as the background for this layout and played with some mixed media. The photos were taken early this year during our trip to Japan.
For the background, I added gesso to certain parts of the paper before adding splatters of blue paints. I cut up lots of white and blue vellum pieces and pasted them over the gesso before adding some black and gold stamping.
I sewed the white lace trim into flowers and added a gold flower centre.
The kit comes with lots of alpha stickers and this one suits perfectly.

Sofa Picnic Lunch
Absolutely love the blues and golds of this layout. Such a great combination. I backed the gold under torn strips of the blue balloon paper. The photo was taken on a lazy Saturday home movie lunch day.
A little cluster of flowers and word tiles add detail to this photo corner.
I cut out the cross design from another piece of paper and stuck them randomly around the page. I finished off the page with a splatter of ink.
Loving the foam letters. So easy to use and easy to stick.

Tenrific 10!
A rare double page layout. I had so many great photos I couldn't leave out for this event. The kit comes with two of the gold glitter background paper and it looks so gorgeous as a backdrop to the photos. I also used a balloon paper in the centre - so fitting for the photos.
Here's the same pages but in single size.

I turned the cotton balls into fluffy balloons. I coloured the word titles with zig markers and added the enamel dots around the page.
I had the title twice as I liked them both and this area seemed a little bare without it.
Loving the birthday stickers that came in the kit. Really glad I got to use this kit for the photos - they match so well and have a more grown up theme.

It's Fine To Be Nine

It's that time of year again of birthday celebrations. The hubby and Miss C have their birthdays on the 10th and 14th respectively. Hubby only managed to get home from a business trip on the night of his birthday, so we held off on celebrating except for a card or two.

For Miss C, we had a little party for her and her friends. She also got the most longed for present of a mermaid tail which she was constantly asking for.  It's a full body mermaid tail with a mono fin which you can swim in. It's the most gorgeous tail with beautifully printed scales. We're testing it out next week on our one week holiday in Bali. Can't wait for that.

Fine To Be Nine
A rare double layout, I used two contrasting coloured background paper and linked them with the punched striped paper at the top that looks like awning
I mimicked the name balloon banner in the photos with similar coloured chipboard Alphas
I love the see through birthday stickers which I stuck on some of the photos as well as around the page.
I heat embossed the wooden letters in gold to make them stand out a bit more. For the top and bottom scalloped paper trims, I used a very old paper by Sassafras Lass, who no longer design as a brand. I was hoarding them but I thought they fit well with the other papers I used, so finally decided to part with one. I love how they used to do patterned cut off strips on their papers.

Products Used
Background papers and tickets by Pebbles Birthday Wishes
Paper borders by Sassafras Lass (discontinued)
Clear stickers by MAMBI birthday
Wooden words by Freckled Fawn
Gold embossing powder by Ranger
Orange and blue cardstock by Bazzill Papers

Eighth Birthday Joy

Hi all.  I think you've probably figured that I'm not a huge double layout per, but once in a while, there comes a layout that has too many photos to do in just one page. Birthday pages are just that. Too many photos you want to scrap and record, and this time I had a great birthday paper collection to work with.

One of the things I love about My Creative Scrapbook kits (and I've been subscribing to the kits for five years now), is that they always bring out a birthday themed collection every year, around March or April. Having the kit come during this time period means I won't procrastinate about scrapbooking those party layout.

Eight Is Great
This paper line is so much fun, with bright colours, patterns with balloons and candles. I hand cut the uneven green scallop for added detail. I also broke out some of my oldest scrapbooking tools: patterned scissors to add interest to the circles.
I cut the balloons out of one of the papers and added stickles on the dots to match the title.
The MCS kit came with one paper straw, which I cut up and added "flames" to. Wish I had another one though, so I could have eight candles.

Products Used
Patterned papers, tags and blue glitter dot chipboard letters from R Memory Keepers Hip Hip Hooray! collection
Bingo card tags from Jenni Bowlin
Jeweled brads from Echo Park
White, blue and yellow cardstock from stash
Baker's twine

Party Week Done

Hi there,

It's been another busy week with crop sessions, baking, planning Miss C's birthday party, running around like crazy for the party, and of course, a layout.

Miss C turned seven on Thursday this week. She's usually a bus goer, so was very excited to be a "walker". I picked her up from school and she was treated to a proper afternoon tea at TWG, before putting on some 3D glasses to watch Oz the Great and Powerful. I did have my reservations about bringing her to watch this film, as I had heard it was pretty scary - and there were some scenes where she hid under my arm, but she enjoyed it nonetheless. After that, we queued an hour for her favourite sushi. By this time, it was already eight o'clock, so we quickly gobbled down our salmon and tuna, before heading home.

Puffle cupcakes that Miss C took to school.

Proper afternoon tea with sandwiches, cake and scones.

Since Miss C's actual birthday fell on a weekday, we held her party today. This year, she wanted Club Penguin as her party theme. It's a kid's online game, with penguins and their puffle pets, so of course I had to come up with all sorts of things penguin and puffles. Luckily, there is one toy shop that does a few items and lots of online references for me to draw from.

I allowed her to invite six friends, and they had a blast making pom pom puffles, very messy slime, enjoyed some games, ice cream and cake. It's nice to have a smaller number of kids. Much more manageable than previous years. I think next year, I'm going to take the numbers down even more and have an outing instead.

Showing off their pom pom puffles.
Enjoying an icecream before the cake.
Blowing out her many candles.

It really is quite stressful, planning and executing a birthday party, so I'm pretty glad that it's over for another year. Next thing to do though, is to scrapbook the events. Check back for those, as I'll be using some new papers that are coming into the HKMC shop very, very soon.

Thanks for looking,

It's His Day

Hi there,

How was your weekend? Ours has been fun - it was hubby's birthday, and he wanted to go to Macau for the weekend. I picked up Miss C from school on Friday afternoon. Boy, was she excited - she's usually a bus goer, and loves it when she becomes a "walker".

That evening, we saw "House of Dancing Water".  Hubby and I had seen it before but it was a treat for Miss C and she absolutely loved it. It was pretty spectacular; love all the water acrobatics, although I still scratch my head at the motorcycle intermission. We sat in the "splash-zone", and had fun trying not to get wet. Of course, the performers tried to make sure you got the biggest splashes.

@ the Holiday Inn Cotai

On Saturday, after a leisurely breakfast, we met up with friends and wrangled our way through the old town. Wow, crowded! Needless to say, we didn't stay too long. It took another hour just to find a taxi to go back to the hotel. In the end, hubby went back to get the cake, while the rest of us went straight to the restaurant where dinner was booked. The Macanese/Portuguese food in Macau is so good - a must try. Hubby ended the night at the craps table - unfortunately, there was no birthday luck tonight, while Miss C and I snuggled up in bed to watch cartoons.

How pretty. Strange, but pretty.

On Sunday, Miss C and I spent a couple of hours at the Qube, the indoor playground, while hubby played a bit more craps with a friend. We took a mid-afternoon ferry back to Hong Kong and spent the rest of the day just relaxing. All in all, a great weekend.

Miss C loving the slides at Qube

Of course, I had to scrapbook it. The HKMC shop has brought in a selection of CHA releases and we are working on samples for the lines. Last week, I showed you Glitz Designs Color Me Happy samples. This time, it's on to Teresa Collins. One of my favourite lines this year, is her He Said, She Said collection. We split the line up into gender and I loved working with the He Said line. Such gorgeous colours and designs.

 Your Day

Such a funny photo of hubby with his cake. Don't you love how the colours in this paper line come together so well?
So many cute sayings to choose from. I chose a shiny silver Thickers for the title to match.
There are loads of die cut elements to build your page with.
See that glittery scallop border? It is so much shinier in person. It really makes the layout pop.

There are also loads of chipboard, buttons, garlands, washi tape and more, that come with the line, which I haven't used on my layout. Super cute.

Products Used
All papers, pre-cut borders and die cuts from Teresa Collins He Said, She Said collection
Silver Thickers from American Crafts

This week, I'm planning Miss C's birthday, which is only four days apart from hubby's. Since her actual birthday falls on a Thursday, we will be having her party this coming Sunday. Luckily, the parties are getting smaller, so hopefully, I'll be able to get some more layouts and projects done in between everything else.

See you soon,
