Camping We Will Go

Hi there. This week, Miss C had her school camp, where her class went on a three day camping trip. They had to pitch their own tents and they had a lot of fun doing water sports and team building exercises. Miss C came home exhausted but very happy. The teachers were very good with taking photos and putting them up online for us parents, so it was great to see quite a few of Miss C with her friends. Since there were so many of them, I decided to make a double page layout during our crop session this week.

A Camping We Will Go
I used two collections from the same manufacturer, mixing and matching. The background papers are from separate paper lines but the colours of the embellishments match each one well. I'm not great with double pages and it's funny how I made the layout to look like two separate pages.
I matted all the photos with kraft cardstock before adding circular cut outs randomly around the photos.
A little mini title area with journalling.
I love the brown burlap look of the background paper - so realistic. Again, I used circular cut outs to tie the pages together.
Cute accent corner with some chipboard.

Thanks for looking,

HK Memory Chest Kit Club - November 2015

Hellooo. It's been a while. Did you miss me? Ha ha.  We've been away for the last two and half weeks - first to Bali for a week during half term and then, a cruise from Singapore for hubby and I. We're sitting in the airport lounge waiting for our flight home and thank goodness - we finally have decent wifi.

If you've ever been on a cruise - you don't get wifi, unless you pay an astronomical amount for it. We usually don't do it and it makes for a relaxing, unconnected holiday, however, this time we were waiting for some family news from the UK, so hubby decided to get a weeks' plan for us - the worst wifi ever - as slow as the first internet connection. It's understandable though, since it's all linked by satellite when you're on a ship and you get bounced from satellite to satellite.

In anycase, I'm finally (un)wired up again, so decided to fit this post in while waiting for our plane.

Luckily, I did manage to get the November kit from HKMC to work on while we were on the ship and had a fun couple of days finishing them off. This month's kit is very cute with an eclectic selection of papers.

The sketch for this month:

 You & Me
I absolutely adore the background paper - such cute line drawings and reminds me of the adult colouring book trend that's happening now - so what to do? Colour them of course! The cute photos were mother and daughter messing about - not the best quality photos but a worthy moment to catalogue.
The kit comes with some pretty silk flowers that add a nice punch to the page - so cheerful. I love the glittery gold foam title and splattered on a bit of gold ink to draw out the gold elements a bit more.
I used my Zig Color Real Brushes and a water brush to add colour to some of the drawings - I didn't want to do the full page as I wanted to keep it mostly clear.

 Soft Hugs
Don't you love the water colour paper? I didn't do that - it's printed on the paper! So cool and so on trend. You know Miss C and her Snoopy obsession. She can never resist a cuddle with one - especially one so large.
The kit comes with some pom pom trim, which I tucked into the bottom of the photo. The animals, I cut out from another sheet of kit paper and had them standing on either side of the photo - so cute. I coloured up the title and added a shimmer of gold spray.
Love the glitter sentiment pack that comes with the kit and this one seems so appropriate. I also love the rotary stamp with all it's cute phrases - perfect for all occasions.

So Good & Yummy
For my last layout (which was the first one I did), I kept the background fairly fuss free as I wanted to concentrate on the busy photos instead.  I cut both papers (the striped and green) at a bias for my photo collage.
I added a black pen border around each photo to mimic a comic strip. It also helps to make them pop a little and make them more grounded.
I finished off with some wood veneer letters which I painted black with my Faber-Castell big brush pen and also some naked veneer asterisk and quotation marks.
