All That Glitters

Hi there. Here's my second layout of the week.  After a very simple one, I needed to stretch my creative wings and do something more elaborate. So much fun to get all my mixed media supplies out again.

All That Glitters

 I just love the sweet flowers and the pretty background paper. The photo was taken against a crystal studded window. So pretty.

I added molding paste over a floral stencil for the background and I also love the glass bead gel which mimics the crystals in the photo. I matted the photo with a square doily, cut down to size.

I dabbed on lots of stickles on the flowers to make them glitter that much more.

 I added some pink sprays to the background after all the molding paste and glass beads had dried. I also added a layer of glossy accents to the title letters to make them pop a bit more.

I also coloured some molding paste with gold magicals and scraped it through a brick effect stencil. The layered flowers are part of 'put it together yourself' flower kit. I finished everything off with lots of Wink of Stella and a good spritz of clear shimmer all over the page.

Stamp Your Background

Remember the days when most of us used plain cardstock as our background paper? Nowadays, we rely on having patterned paper to take that place, and every paper collection will have a certain number of "B" sides that make amazing background papers.

This time, I chose a rather plain "B" side paper and did some stamping to create my own "patterned paper".

This Is The Greatest Day

This layout is quite simple in style, with just a few strips of paper laid vertically on the page. I like all the pinks and reds that contrast with the yellows.

A splash of yellow against the reds and pinks draw your eyes inwards to the photo.

Instead of stamping over the whole page, I added the stamping to open areas around all the other elements only.

HK Memory Chest Kit Club - November 2014

Time is passing so quickly. It's already the beginning of November and only a few weeks left before Christmas and the end of the year. Still not cool enough for the duvet and cat on the sofa but cool enough for hikes up the hills behind our flat. It's amazing when you get up to the top, taking in the breeze and being able to look over our little domain. A perfect autumn day with rare blue skies.

Starting in November, HK Memory Chest is going through a metamorphosis, with a new location, an updated website, a new blog (www.papercraftbuffet.com) and online shop.  It is on the other end of the MTR island line and a little out of the way, but we'll still be there for classes and to offer assistance during our monthly crops. The new address is Room 1905, Trend Centre, 29-31 Cheung Lee Street, Chai Wan, Hong Kong.

On to the kit. This one is packed with stuff and I'm extra excited about it as it combines gorgeous modern elements for the city-fied girl in me. Designed by Kelly Purkey, the kit colours are perfect for autumn, with greens, oranges and purples (and can also be adapted for those Halloween layouts if you so wish).

Here's the sketch based on one of my layouts.

My Hong Kong

I'm in love with the yellow city grid paper and don't even get me started on the city scape paper. Just too cool; perfect for the pics I took a while back. For the top details, I cut a border sticker in half lengthways for the purple scallops and folded down a corner to add the sun clip.

I clustered some frames and feathers to the left of the photos to balance off the page and added just a bit of stamping to draw your eye. I love the feathers and leaves that come in the kit.

The kit comes with a pack of big pack of alphas and I added them on to give a subtle title.

Bright lights, big city - yup, it may be a New York saying, but does very well for Hong Kong, if not better.

Elefun

This collection can be so versatile and I wanted to show that in a grungy layout. The colours and patterns give off an exotic vibe and I felt went well with the colourful elephants in the photos. Messy stamping and paper tearing for the background compliments the detailed photos.

 I'm loving the colourful street map paper which really pulls your eye into the photos. I edged a lot of the layers with black soot distress ink to give it a more definition.

I sprayed a doily with matching colours to lay behind the photos. The kit has a great selection of chipboard, die cuts and wooden embellishments to choose from and I enjoyed putting my accents together.

The title is an amalgamation on the word "elephant" and "fun". For the stencil on the top edge of this picture, I inked the arrows horizontally to go with the paper pattern orientation.

This Way 2 The Good Stuff

For my last layout, I love the ombre orange background paper as a contrast to the predominantly blue photos. The photos were taken in England last year where Miss C had hilarious fun trying to run around in a water zorb.

I pieced together different accents from the kit to make the title.

I added gold glitter to the heart in the cloud before adding glossy accents to keep the glitter in place. I found a little arrow stamp in my stash and stamped them in gold around the page.

To add interest around the photos, I cut up the street map paper into "patchwork" pieces to frame the lot. I added more word stamping and cut up some of the transparent pieces from the kit.

Cute Little BFFs

Do you remember your first real best friends? Were you lucky to have just one, or two, or three? I remember having one at Miss C's age. We used to go swimming together and make cakes (a mess) together, but when we came into double digits, we both moved to different countries. After that, we gained new best friends, and I guess that has been the way since, but you will always remember the first one you giggled with, played clapping games with.

Miss C is lucky to have two at this point in her life; both are in her class and on the school bus home. It's sweet to see how they play together and support each other, even at this young age. She has told me that one will be leaving at the end of the school year and moving out of the neigbourhood. This will happen again, especially since we live in such a transient city.

BFFs

How fun to have some BFF accents that came in one of the MCS kits.

I stenciled some modeling paste over a grid mask before splattering the paper lightly with some spray inks. I only wanted a small smattering of flowers on this layout, so broke down a larger flower to the size I needed.

I split up a ring of chipboard stickers and staggered them on my page. Love the patterned butterflies.

I'm loving all the paper bags a lot of brands are coming out with now; great for holding journaling cards.

HK Memory Chest Kit Club - November 2012

Hello everyone,

It's the end of another month already! Tomorrow is Halloween, so I'll be taking Miss C out for trick or treat after school. She's been looking forward to that for ages. I must admit, it's one of my favourite too. I love all the ghoulish decorations and all that yummy candy (just one). I usually throw a Halloween party the weekend before. Too bad we couldn't do much more this year, with being away and Halloween falling on a hump day. Hopefully we'll be able to do one next year.

November will prove to be another busy and hectic month. Christmas planning will be in full force and I will have to get a move on to finish all my shopping before we leave for the UK to spend the holidays with the in-laws.

Anyway, without further ado, here is the November kit reveal, with colours reminiscent of the fall. And to show how far your kit (with add-ons) will get you? I managed to get four layouts and a mini album out of the whole thing.

Smile & Snap!

 Can you believe most of the layering is already printed on the paper? I just added a few more touches.

 I cut slits in the "polaroid" and threaded some string through..

 I reciprocated the date stamped print on the main paper with my own date stamped tag.

I tried to keep this layout uncluttered but wanted to give it a bold accent just to frame the photo.

 I took inspiration from the paper itself and stenciled circles onto the base paper with clear matte medium to give subtle texture. I then designed and cut out a pattern of interlinked circles to matt the photo.

 I stitched a row of triangles as an anchor base. The stitching is to emulate the blanket stitch on the dictionary paper under it. For the wooden veneer, I simply shaded it using distress inks to give it some dimension.

 I wanted to do a page on Miss C's favourites. I think I'll have to go back to her previous years and do one each.

Way Too Cool

This layout is based on a sketch from MCS

 I love the mini envelopes and file folders that come with the Clippings collection. They are so functional in hiding journaling. I also tried to use the clips to spell the word "so".

 The wood veneers were painted with a thick layer of Old Paper crackle paint before being inked with Vintage Photo distress ink.

Viva Venezia Mini Album

 The album had been sitting in my stash for ages and I finally decided to get it out and work on it. All of the papers are covered in Clippings papers and matching cardstock.
